Oktoberfest alone? Find a group to go with

Every year thousands of people come to Oktoberfest on their own — and it’s one of the best places in the world to make friends: you share a table, you share a song, and by the second Maß you’re not alone anymore.

The tricky part is getting in: tables are made for groups, and without a group or a reservation it can be hard to get a seat. On Hellohood people post Wiesn plans — “tent visit Thursday at 12, 3 seats left” — so you can join a group instead of standing at the door alone.

What to know before you go

When — Oktoberfest runs from mid-September to the first Sunday in October on the Theresienwiese (U-Bahn Theresienwiese).
Entry is free — You don’t pay to enter the grounds or the big tents — you pay for food, drinks and rides.
No reservation? Go early — Tents keep unreserved areas; on weekdays before the afternoon it’s much easier to find a seat. Weekends fill up fast.
You need a seat to be served — Beer comes by the Maß (1 litre) and only at the table — another reason to go as a group.
Travel light — Large bags aren’t allowed on the grounds; bring ID and cash just in case.

Tips

Join or post a group plan: a table of 6–10 is much easier to fill than a seat for one.
Go on a weekday morning or at lunchtime for the best chance without a reservation.
Drink water between rounds and plan your way back — trains are packed in the evening.
Dirndl or Lederhosen are optional; plenty of people come in normal clothes.
